• Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death for children over age one and adults under 45.
• It accounts for more years of life lost than heart attacks, cancer and stroke combined.
• The majority of trauma patients at Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) are from motor-vehicle related injuries.
• Falls – typically children seniors and construction workers – are the second leading cause of trauma at ORMC.
• Last year, ORMC saw over 4,000 trauma patients, making Central Florida’s only Level One Trauma Center among the busiest in the nation.
• Of those patients, 20% were pediatric.
• The number of trauma patients treated at ORMC has nearly tripled over the last decade.  More capacity is essential.
