Beyoncé got lemons, made Lemonade, and the world will never be the same again. As one of the most iconic moments in the history of fashion, music, and womanhood, Lemonade will be influencing many a wardrobe in the coming months. Here’s The Mall at Millenia’s guide to making the look your own.
THE YELLOW DRESS
It’s the album’s standout look: that yellow dress from “Hold Up,” fit for the perfect diva. Did you know it’s not just a to-die-for Roberto Cavalli gown? It’s also a reference to Oshun, an African goddess of sensuality, flirtatiousness, feminine sexuality, love, and fertility, who’s typically pictured in yellow. Get in touch with your own inner Oshun with a lemon-yellow dress, from BCBG Max Azria, Apiece Apart at Neiman Marcus, or Kate Spade.
Lace was a recurring theme in Lemonade, in Southern gothic and Neo-Victorian scenes, dresses and bodysuits. It’s also a look that Beyoncé loves to rock at celeb events such as the Met Ball, often with a deep-slashed neckline. We love the Carmine minidress from For Love and Lemons (available at Bloomingdale’s), Forever 21’s Allflower pointenelle lace top, and Michael Kors’s modern take on a Southern belle, lace and silk-georgette dress.
Bey is a master of details, and Lemonade is no exception. She started out by reclaiming the simple black hoodie — see lululemon’s Scuba hoodie, above. Other standouts include “Hold Up”’s heavy gold hoop earrings — check out David Yurman’s Cable Classics hoop earrings in gold. And, okay, okay, they’re not strictly in Lemonade, but as possibly the most fabulous jewels ever to grace a music video, the gothic chokers from “Formation” deserve a mention. Recreate the look with Swarovski’s Eclipse necklace.
And if that’s all a little too literal, make your own lemonade and celebrate Queen Bey with all things lemon. We love Anthropologie’s crossbody clutch, Dolce & Gabbana’s sleeveless lemon-print sheath dress (available at Neiman Marcus), and J.Crew’s lemon crystal earrings.
